Brief Job Description

This position involves ensuring that all aspects of engineering design from the concept to manufacturing phase follows strict adherence to the relevant design and engineering standards. This role also serves to maintain high quality engineering outputs for all the respective product ranges with no compromise on safety and health issues for the end-users. A key inherent competency for the role is a high level of applied engineering experience in the field and due diligence in managing all engineering compliance requirements.

 

Duties or Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Engineering Manager
  • Plan and arrange for brake testing of vehicle fleet
  • Expedite on cab fabrications for ROPS/FOPS testing, perform quality checks and on-site inspections and ensure timeous delivery of the cabs for testing
  • Plan, arrange and coordinate with Production Department on cab testing and vehicle inspections for FOPS/ROPS testing of vehicle fleet
  • Ensure completeness in all test certification documentation and proper filing thereof
  • Ensure that design project files are up to date and kept in a specified format
  • Keep track of all machine component approvals and certifications including:
    • Axle approvals
    • Tow bars and attachments
    • Lifting equipment
    • Emission test certification
    • NDT inspections
    • Third party approvals
  • Develop procedures where required to improve on process efficiency
  • Manage and administrate the complete product data management system and develop solutions for process enhancements where relevant
  • Keep abreast of all updates on engineering standards and enforce this in the design office
  • Manage stock card applications for machine components and coordinate with the Finance Team to:
    • Prevent excess stock, duplicate parts and unnecessary waste
    • Utilize existing excess stock where possible
  • Assist the Design Office with component standardization where possible
  • Provide aftermarket support where required especially in tracking components and providing technical information
  • Assist the Engineering Department with quotation handling
  • Continuously track all costing for projects and coordinate with the Sales Department to ensure that projects remain within budget
  • Assist the Sales Department with cost generation and technical guidance for new Tenders
  • Participate in prototype design reviews and special projects

Skills or Requirements

  • Proven working experience as a Compliance Manager
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Excellent track record of applied engineering experience
  • Product data management experience
  • Ability to plan, multi-task and manage time effectively
  • Strong report writing and record keeping ability
  • Good management of financial resources
  • Good computer and data basing skills
  • BEng Mechanical Engineering and MSc.Eng Mechanical Engineering a requirement
  • PrEng certification
